William Homer “Billy” Kidd
OTTAWA – William Homer Kidd, age 76, of Ottawa, passed away Friday, April 25, 2014 at OSF Saint Elizabeth Medical Center in Ottawa.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with the Reverend Duane Kaufman officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
William was born July 7, 1937 in Oglesby, Illinois to Homer and Eva (Borys) Kidd. He married Mary Crews and later married Barbara Young. William is survived by his children, Karen Kidd of Joliet, IL, Sharon Kidd and Leslie Kidd, both of Carrollton, GA, and Christopher Young of Lombard, IL. He also leaves three grandchildren, Adam, Zachary and Karlee Demmer. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard Kidd, one sister, Elizabeth Dinaso and companion, AnEsther Ludwig.
Affectionately known to his friends and co-workers as “Billy the Kidd”, William worked for NBC Channel 5 in Chicago as a television and sports camera/audio engineer. During his 30 plus year career at NBC, William was awarded the 1986 Sports Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement for Technical Team and Remote during his coverage of the 1986 World Series. William also enjoyed photography, music, writing poetry and was a member of the Poetry Club.
