Wesley Abell

OTTAWA - Wesley Abell, 62, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, May 1, 2011, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Clark officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at Gladfelter Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Anderson, Danny Burress, Will Tongate, Wayne Daugherty and Roy Valdez. Wesley was born July 29, 1948 in Ottawa, a son of Lonzie and Estella (Farrell) Abell. He married Phyliss Daugherty April 6, 1967 at the First Baptist Church in Ottawa. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Phyliss, of Ottawa; his children, Robert (Janice) Abell of Ottawa and Kerry (Craig) Olson of Phelan, CA; his sister, Velma Tungate of Campbellsville, KY; and three grandchildren, Clarissa Abell, Josh and Kira Olson. He was preceded in death by one brother, Willard Abell and two sisters, Kathleen Tongate and Wilma Ashoff. Wesley attended the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Marseilles. He was retired from U.S. Silica after 35 years. His leisure time was spent raising Sulkey racing horses. He loved eating out with friends. His most cherished time was that spent with his family.
