Wayne Bernt Ryg

OTTAWA - Wayne Bernt Ryg, 78, of Ottawa passed away Tuesday, May 3, 2011 at Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare Center. Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. till service time Saturday at the funeral home. Wayne was born August 23, 1932 to Bernt and Esther (Voga) Ryg. He was born near Ottawa in Freedom Township and grew up in Earlville. He is survived by his daughter, Linda Ryg of Ottawa; two brothers, Emmett (Joyce) Ryg of Ottawa and David Ryg of Belvidere; and one sister, Delores (Bob) Bryant of Earlville. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Elaine Imel, Katherine Burgrabe, and Patricia Isham; and one brother in infancy. Wayne attended Fox River Lutheran Church in Norway and also St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Roswell, New Mexico. He was active in the Civil Defense System for several years. In the 50s and 60s Wayne was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association. His pastimes included camping, traveling, and visiting family members. Wayne was a loving and devoted father to his daughter, Linda, and cherished their time together on the farm while Linda was growing up. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for a memorial to be designated at a later date.
