Walter H. Snook

Walter H. Snook, age 84, of Ottawa, passed away 10:20 p.m. Friday, December 24, 2010 at the LaSalle County Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Gladfelter Funeral Home with the Reverend David M. Kipfer officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. with Prayer Service at 4 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Thomas, Shane and Rusit Hallam, Robert and Paul Snook, Matthew Haage and Anthony Tarr. Walter was born February 16, 1926 at Ottawa, Illinois, a son of Walter Leslie and Ruth (Radle) Snook. He married Lida Clara Mohkovic February 18, 1947 at St. Patrick's Church in Ottawa. She preceded him in death October 2, 2007. He is survived by his children, Linda (Samuel) Hallam, Larry (Gloria) Snook and Lois (Mike) Haage all of Ottawa and a brother, David (Rogene) Snook also of Ottawa. Walter also leaves grandchildren, Thomas and Shane Hallam, Robert and Paul Snook, Tarni Tarr, Matthew and Susan Haage and Laura Burkhead; great grandchildren, Rusit, Samantha, Morgan and Alyssa Hallam, Allison, Molly, Madison and Bobbi Sue Snook, Anthony and Aubrey Tarr, Walter and Grant Michael Haage and Tessa Marie and Hadleigh Clara Burkhead. Walter was a member of St. Columba Church. He had been a dock worker for Scherer Freight Lines. Walter also worked picking up milk cans for Sanitary Dairy owned by his uncle, Gayle Radle. In April of 1950, Walter moved to Burlington, Wisconsin and purchased a dairy farm. He returned and farmed North of Ottawa from 1956 to 1972. He operated a farm in Russellville, Kentucky from 1972 to 1977 before returning to Illinois to a farm on Minooka and Airport Roads in Grundy County. In his leisure, he enjoyed reading.
