Virginia May Olafson

Virginia May Olafson, age 85, of Marseilles, passed away Monday, April 6, 2009, at Ottawa Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Friday at Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Peter Ward officiating. Interment will be in Beverly Cemetery, Blue Island, Illinois. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Gladfelter Funeral Home and from 9:30 to 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Virginia was born May 21, 1923 in Chicago, Illinois, a daughter of Robert and Pauline (Koranda) Jensen. She married Ernest C. Porter in 1939, he preceded her in death in 1970. She later married Daniel Olafson in 1972 in Marseilles. He preceded her in death December 7, 1992. She is survived by a daughter, Virginia Lee Olafson of Marseilles; a step-son, Robert (Patti) Olafson of Plainfield; grandchildren, Noel Marie (David) Glenn, Maureen (Kris) Severinsen, Daniel (Susan) Olafson and Kelly (Paul) Vidmar. She also leaves great-grandchildren, Madisyn Marie, Sherri (David), Shana, Dane, Serena, Stephanie, Zachary, Megan, Ryan and Gregory; a sister, Beatrice Liedtke of Algonquin; a sister-in-law, Margaret Dwyer and seven nieces and nephews. Her parents, one brother, Robert Jensen, one sister, Florence Jensen, a son-in-law, Dale Olafson, one niece, Beatrice Schmidt and husband Robert and one nephew William Toner preceded her in death. Mrs. Olafson was a charter member of Faith Lutheran Church where she was involved in the Bazaar Sewing Workshop. Virginia had been employed as a law librarian. Her leisure time often found her reading, sewing and gardening. She dearly loved her family and spending time with them.
