Vincent Angelo Dettore, 68, of Naplate, died Friday, May 4th at Community Hospital of Ottawa. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Rev. Steven Loftus officiating and the Rev. Harry Schmidt as concelebrant. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park with military honors. Visitation will be Tuesday 4 to 8 Tuesday at Gladfelter Funeral Home with the rosary at 4 p.m. Mr. Dettore was born January 24, 1939 in Ottawa to Angelo Battisto and Mary Kay (Cioni) Dettore. He married Rosemary Ott on June 18, 1960 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Marseilles. He was employed at Libbey-Owens-Ford for eleven years. He was the Ottawa Township Road Commissioner, retiring in 1998 after 24 years of service. He was a member of the Volunteer Fire Department for 32 years, 27 of those years as the Fire Chief. He was a member of the Naplate Village Board and Police Officer. He served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Layette from 1955 to 1959. He was a member of the Ottawa Loyal Order of the Moose, Knights of Columbus, Democrat precinct committeeman, Illinois Association of Township Officials for 24 years and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was known as the "Hot Pepper (Booster) King of Naplate." He is survived by his wife; three sons, Vince, Jr. of Tampa, Fla., Greg of Naplate and Michael (Rosa) of Montgomery; a daughter, Dawn of Naplate; his mother of Ottawa; nine grandchildren, Brooke Anne, Cassie Lynn, Briar, Tyler, Nadalie Rose, Michael, John David, Timothy and Steffanna Dettore; three great grandsons, Pierce and Collin Ramoino and Mason Hatala; a brother Dave "Vitto" of Umatilla, Fla. He was preceded in death by his father. Pallbearers will be his three sons, Tim Creedon III, Jerry Nanouski, Art Rick, Jr., Jim Rick, Gary Mooney, Joe Willet, Bill Backos and Joe McCormick. Memorials may be directed to the family.
