Sylvia Katherine Miner

OTTAWA --- Sylvia Katherine Miner, age 92, of Ottawa, passed away at 9:00 p.m. Monday, June 29, 2009 at the Ottawa Pavilion. Private services will be held Friday at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor Jonathan Crail officiating. Interment will be in Prairie Center Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mrs. Miner was born February 9, 1917 in Dunklin County, Missouri, a daughter of William Ira and Sylvia (House) Launius. She married John Alexander Miner March 5, 1939 at Malden, Missouri, he preceded her in death March 31, 1992. She is survived by daughters, Maggie Maltas and Nancy (Darrell) Cochran all of Ottawa; a brother, Homer (Romelle) Launius of Ottawa and a sister, Geraldine Garrison of Campbell, Missouri. She also leaves grandchildren, Wayne Maltas, Robert Reese, Irwin Ayers and Richard Reese all of Ottawa; and two great-grandchildren, Riley and Briana Reese. She was preceded in death by a son, John E. Miner, a grandson, Randy Maltas, two brothers, Ira and Calvin Launius and a sister, Mabel Wright. Mrs. Miner was a member of Harding United Methodist Church and the United Auto Workers. She had been employed at Hart-Carter Manufacturing in Mendota. Sylvia enjoyed sewing and embroidery, but dearly loved working in her yard at her home in the country. Memorial contributions may be directed to Friendship Village or Ottawa Pavilion.
