OTTAWA – Sidney Grant Hensley, age 72, of Lexington, North Carolina, passed away Saturday, January 19, 2013 in Ottawa.
Funeral services honoring his life will be held 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Rev. David M. Kipfer officiating. Interment will follow in St. Columba Cemetery with Military Honors by the Ottawa Veterans Organization. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to service time Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Randy Hensley, Robert Manley, Larry Dobley, Jamie Cabrera, Daniel Lynch and Jim Harper.
Sidney was born June 14, 1940 at Charleston, West Virginia, a son of Trinel and Ella (Muncey) Hensley. He married Victoria Almeda March 9, 1968 at Joliet, Illinois. Surviving are his wife, Victoria of Lexington, North Carolina; a brother, Robert (Ann) Hensley of Teays Valley, West Virginia; sisters, Joyce Ward of Grays Lake and Edith (Elmer) Williams of Morris; and sisters-in-law, Betty Hensley of Joliet and Alice Hensley of Sissonville, West Virginia. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers, Ted, Buster, Lee and Rudolph Hensley.
Sidney was a retired supervisor for Owens Illinois Glass Company in Streator. He served his country in the U.S. Navy. Sidney was an avid golfer and a gifted artist having some of his paintings displayed in various museums. His spare time was consumed with refurbishing older cars and travel. He loved life in general and was deeply devoted to his adoring wife, Vicki. He will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends. Memorial contributions may be made to VITAS Hospice.
