OTTAWA - Sidney E. Anderson, 84, of Ottawa, died Monday, August 23, 2010 at his home. Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 27, 2010 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Carl Hardie officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park with full military honors. Pallbearers will be grandchildren and their spouses. Honorary pallbearers will be Ray, Tony and Billy Joe Anderson and Roddy LaPradd. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Anderson was born May 8, 1926, in Newark, Ill., to Newman and Evelyn Grace (Vincent) Anderson. He was married to Marie M. Lewis on May 22, 1948, in Moline, Ill. She died October 15, 1988. He is survived by two daughters, Phyllis (Dave) Simmons and Lora (Anthony Rehor) Wright all of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Rachel (Cory) Mangers, Charles Simmons, Carl (Blair) Thiessen, Jessica (Bob) Olson, Tony and Jeremiah Rehor; four step-grandchildren, Sharon Terry, Tressa Beers, Bonnie Phillips and Donald Wireman, Jr.; five great grandchildren, Kaylee, Aubry and Madilyn Thiessen and Hailley and Audrey Olson and several step-great grandchildren and step-great-great-grandchildren. He also leaves three brothers, Harlow (Joann) of Gautier, Miss., Donald (Mary) of Kangley, Ill. and Dean of Ottawa; and three sisters, Betty Elko of Kangley, Ill., Joan LaPradd and Marilyn Tunget both of Ottawa. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Arvid Anderson and a step-daughter, Sharon Wireman. Mr. Anderson served in the U. S. 7th Army with the 100 Division in the Infantry in the European Theater during World War II. He retired from Libbey-Owens-Ford in the maintenance Nov. 1, 1986. Sidney enjoyed traveling, gardening and spending time with his family and friends. Memorials may be directed to the family.
