Shirley Lillian Pylest, 70, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, September 11, 2008 at her residence. Memorial services honoring her life will be held at 6:30 p.m. Monday, September 15, 2008 at Gladfelter Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Shirley was born May 3, 1938 at Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Alfred and Elizabeth (Organ) Dorn. She married Lacey Cecil Pylest, he preceded her in death April 25, 2002. She is survived by her children, Mike Ransford (Carol Jo) of Oswego, Laura Ransford of Montgomery, Gary Pylest of Ottawa and Elizabeth (Pylest) Blakley (Charles) of Ottawa. She also leaves a brother, Al Dorn of Colorado; grandchildren, Amanda and Alicia Edlemon, Kristina and Gabriel Pylest and Jeremy Blakley; and several great-grandchildren. A son, Dave Ransford preceded her in death. Shirley was head cook at the Highway Lounge in Aurora for 27 years. She and her husband owned and operated the Red Top in Aurora for four years. Cooking was her life, along with keeping a clean, orderly home for her family.
