Russell E. Thompson, 86, of Rutland Township, died Wednesday, October 4, 2006, at Community Hospital of Ottawa after a long illness. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday at Gladfelter Funeral Home with the Rev. Bill Clark of the Marseilles Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be in DeBoldt Cemetery with full military honors. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of the services. Mr. Thompson was born November 16, 1919, in Rutland Township, to Orville and Myrtle (Peddicord) Thompson. He married Marie Rose Mussatto on July 24, 1946, in Sycamore, Ill., and celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary this year. He was in the U. S. Army during World War II serving the in the Pacific Theater. He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Ottawa. He farmed all his life and worked at the WD Elevator in Wedron. He was a member of the La Salle County Farm Bureau. He had a sense of humor and enjoyed telling jokes. He enjoyed listening to the radio. He is survived by his wife; a daughter Nancy Thompson of Ottawa; a son, Michael (Julie) Thompson of Fort Myers, Fla.; four grandchildren, Mylinda (Cleve) Threadgill of Ottawa, Chad (Jennifer) Arnold of San Diego, Calif., Jason Thompson of Ottawa and Erika Thompson of Fort Myers, Fla.; two great grandchildren, Austin and Aaron Threadgill; and a sister, Lois Stevenson of Ottawa. He was preceded in death by a son, Norman Russell; two brothers, Orrin and Raymond; and a sister, Mildred Horn. Pallbearers will be Chad Arnold, Cleve Threadgill, Paul Mussatto, Michael Hughes, Russell and Mark Boe, and Mark Varland. Honorary pallbearers will be John Meyer, Lawrence Varland, Earl Riebe, and Phil and Robert Trumbo. Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice.
