ROCHELLE – Roy Peters, age 64, of Rochelle, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Friday night, August 25, 2017, at his residence.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, September 9, 2017, at 12:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with the Reverend John Walker officiating. There will be no visitation. Gladfelter Funeral Home is assisting the family.
Roy was born September 10, 1952 in Ottawa, a son of Roy and Rena (Brakebill) Peters. He married Cathy Danner August 3, 2004 in Oregon, Illinois. Surviving are his wife, Cathy; children, Richard (Jody) Peters of Willow Springs, MO, Shawn Peters of Ottawa and Matthew (Maureen) Doolan. His grandchildren, Jaymes Peters, Elliott Morris and Carter Doolan also survive as well as five nephews and their families. Roy was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Ruth Ann Miller.
Roy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Ottawa. He had served as director of the Food Pantry in Ottawa. Roy was deeply involved in Gideons International. In his spare time, Roy enjoyed cooking, woodworking and was known to enjoy a good remodeling project. Roy’s primary interest and focus was serving the community by feeding those in need through the soup kitchen at Servant’s Heart. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
