Roger L. Severson

Roger Severson, age 82, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2019 at Ottawa Pavilion.

Private family services will be held.  Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home and Cremation Services is assisting with arrangements.

Roger was born February 16, 1937 in Newark, Illinois, the son of Gerhard and Lois Bernice (Espland) Severson.  He married Carole Christine Skoog November 24, 1984 in Escondido, California.  She preceded him in death February 24, 2011.  Roger is survived by his children, Shona Nadine (Tom) Murphy and Elizabeth Ann Cole, all of Ottawa, and Vicki Lynn (Jeff) Sasser of Florida; his extended family Kristal (Tom) Sauvain and Jenneen Johnson-Jones; numerous grandchildren; and his brother, Ronald Severson of Sandwich.  He was preceded in death by three brothers, Gene, Paul, and Bill Severson; two sisters, Diane Backdahl and Judy Severson; a stepson, Scott Johnson; and son-in-law, Phil Cole.

Roger proudly served in the U.S. Air Force.  He had owned and operated Severson Grading Service.  He was a member of the National Rifle Association and the Good Samaritan Club.  Roger enjoyed camping, tending to his dogs and international and domestic travel.  His passion was flying helicopters and Cessna airplanes.
