Robert “Rob” J. Svoboda, age 59, passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2021.
A public visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, February 14th at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home. Due to Covid restriction, masks will be required, social distancing must be observed and the number of people in the building will be monitored. A private family service will be Monday with the Reverend Rich Fassig officiating. Interment will be in Sheridan Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joe Niziolek, Jeremy Fowler, Pete Kanellis, Ron Clemens, Jr., Zach and Ben Thompson.
Rob was born January 5, 1962 at Great Lakes, Illinois, a son of John and Katherine (Johnson) Svoboda. He married Laurel Winters April 27, 1996 at the Sheridan United Methodist Church. Rob is survived by his wife, Laurel; two sons, Nathan and Matthew Svoboda; and his canine companions, Hershey and Cocoa. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Phyllis Svoboda.
Rob retired from the Sheridan Correctional Center as a lieutenant after 32 years of service. He belonged to Heritage Harbor. In his leisure time, Rob enjoyed boating and cruising on his Harley. In earlier years he had obtained his private pilots license. Rob dearly loved his family and will be deeply missed by them and his many friends.
Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
