Robert E. Fowler, 76, of Ottawa, passed away Monday, February 14, 2011 at the LaSalle County Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, February 23 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with the Rev. David M. Kipfer officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Robert was born January 24, 1935 at Ottawa, Illinois, a son of Louis Edward and Mary Ida (Looney) Fowler. He is survived by a sister, Mary Lou Fowler of Ft. Myers Beach, Florida; 3 aunts, Jean Schott and Edith Schomas of Ottawa and Virginia (John) Hill of Livermore, California; several cousins including a special cousin, James Schott of Ottawa. Robert was a member of St. Columba Church. He served in the U.S. Army at a post office in Germany. He had been employed as manager of McClellan's Department Store in Wisconsin and also owned and operated Bianchi Homemade Candy and Ice Cream in Ottawa. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Activity Fund at LaSalle County Nursing Home in lieu of flowers.
