Robert M. Bernico

October 19, 1952 — June 21, 2017

OTTAWA - Robert M. Bernico, Ottawa, aged 64, went home to be with Jesus on June 21st, 2017 after a courageous battle with gallbladder cancer.

Bob was born October 19, 1952 in Chicago, IL, a son of Robert G. and Lillian (Lilyquist) Bernico.  Bob was a loving husband to Sharon (Keith) Bernico.  He was a loving and devoted father to his sons, Michael (Lana) of Bloomington, IL, and Matthew (Shannan) of Greenville, IL. as well as being a dear and loving Papa to his grandsons, William and Lewis.

Bob is survived by his dear brothers Steven (Maureen) of Yorkville IL, Daniel (Nicki) of Winona, IL and sisters Kathleen Haire of Joliet, IL, Barbara Hambrick (Gerry) of Winchester, TN, Mary Jekabsons (Chuck) of Cocoa, FL and Lorie Polesel (Albert) of Rockdale, IL, his mother-in-law Louise Keith of St. Petersburg, FL, sisters-in-law Linda Sorensen (Mike) of Payton, CO, Jayne Keith and Vicki Dunigan (George) also of St Petersburg, FL.  Bob was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert G. Bernico, his mother, Lillian Bernico, his brother-in-law Gilbert Haire and niece Susan Haire of Joliet, his father-in-law William Keith and sister-in-law Nancy (Keith) Kelly.

Bob was a graduate of Lockport West High School and spent his career at Amstek Metal in Joliet.  He was a wonderful friend to many and a faithful member of Crossbridge Community Church of the Nazarene in Ottawa.  Bob was an avid Cubs fan. He loved to hike and explore Starved Rock State park. He also found great enjoyment in walking the beaches of Florida.

Visitation will be held from 9:30 – 11:00 on June 24th at Crossbridge Community Church of the Nazarene with a Celebration of Life to immediately follow. To honor Bob, wearing Cubs shirts and hats are welcome.  Gladfelter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either Nazarene Compassionate Ministries (1130 1st Ave. Ottawa, IL 61350) or Joliet Hospice Services (250 Water Stone Cir.  Joliet, IL 60431).
