Richard E. Debernardi

OTTAWA – Richard Eugene DeBernardi, 85, of Ottawa passed away at 1:38 a.m. Sunday, January 20, 2013 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Streator.
Private family services will be held Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor Donna Trinko officiating. Interment will follow in Ottawa Avenue Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Pallbearers will be family members.
Richard was born June 3, 1927 in Naplate to Dominic P. and Ann (Zuk) DeBernardi. He married Phyllis Ann Rosenfelder on June 15, 1947 at the Evangelical United Methodist Church in Ottawa. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, of Ottawa; one son, David M. DeBernardi of Ottawa; two daughters, Debra S. and Terri L. DeBernardi both of Ottawa; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one great great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter, Nancy J. DeBernardi.
Richard served two years in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Intrepid CVII in the Pacific. He was a member of American Legion Ottawa Post 33. Richard retired from Libbey-Owens-Ford Glass Company after 44 years. He was a member of Local 19 Glassworkers Union.
