OTTAWA – Patrick G. Resendiz, age 60, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, May 18, 2017, at his home after a courageous and humble battle with cancer.  He inspired many who encountered him with his positive attitude, endless stories of hope in the face of adversity, and trust and faith in God.

Michael Mary Resendiz and Tim Allegretti.

Pat was born June 14, 1956 in Chicago, Illinois, a son of Francisco and Mary Jane (Keegan) Resendiz.  He is the beloved husband of Joanne (nee Duffy), married on June 14, 1980 in Somonauk, IL; devoted father of his children, Patrick A. Resendiz and wife, Miranda of Normal, IL, Anthony E. Resendiz and wife, Channda of Camarillo, CA, Barbara M. Allegretti and husband, Tim of Chicago, Peter J. Resendiz and wife, Katie of Urbana, IL and Br. Michael Mary (Shawn D. Resendiz), CSJ of Laredo, TX; dear loving ‘papaw’ of his grandchildren, Noah, Sloan, Gabriel, Grayson, Grace, and a granddaughter expected to arrive in September; dear brother to Joe Resendiz of Chicago, Mario Resendiz and wife, Daiane of Brazil and Cruz Resendiz and wife, Kathy of Indiana and sister, Dolores Ponce de Leon and husband Miguel of Chicago; and uncle to many beloved nieces and nephews.  Pat was preceded in death by his three pre-born children, John Paul, Carlos Francisco, and Joseph Mario; his parents and five brothers, Jackie, Jimmy, Frankie, Paul “Pichi”, and Gerard Resendiz and one sister, Mary Anne.

Pat was an active parishioner of St. Columba Church.  He was a 3rd degree member of Knights of Columbus and former member of the St. Columba Parish Council and co-chairperson of Marquette May Merriment.  He graduated from Quincy College with a Bachelor of Science degree in art education.  He was a self-employed construction salesman and engineer.

Pat was his wife Joanie’s best friend and after 37 years of marriage, many laughs and good times were frequently shared.  His loving generosity to help those around him will always be remembered.  He cherished his children and grandchildren very dearly.  He found great enjoyment and relaxation while playing golf, cooking for his family and friends, and offering a spontaneous tasty meal to neighbors and mail carriers passing by on their route.

Pat was a dreamer, talented designer and artist that had an eye for detail and the courage to follow through.  He was a lover of all animals and was even known as the “animal whisperer” among his family and friends.  Pat was a naturally gifted storyteller.  It was this gift that could make anyone feel comfortable because he always took the time to share and relate to others.  You could always find Pat doing acts of service for his family and friends.  He was a man of action and you could always depend on him to follow through.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions directed to the St. Columba Building Fund or Marquette Academy would be most appreciated.  To share a memory or light a candle in Pat’s memory, please visit www.gladfelterfuneralhome.com or Gladfelter Funeral Home on Facebook.
