Patrick McCarty

Patrick W. McCarty, 85, of Ottawa, passed away on January 13, 2025, at Lightways Hospice in Joliet.

Patrick was born on March 16, 1939, in Tomahawk, Wisconsin, the son of William J. and Verna (Johr) McCarty. After graduating from Lyons Township High School in LaGrange, Patrick joined the Army and was stationed in Germany during the building of the Berlin Wall. During his time in the Army, he married Marie Schmidt on March 5, 1960, in Merrill, Wisconsin. After his time in service, Patrick joined the Operating Engineers Union Local 150 and served with them until his retirement.

Patrick is survived by his wife Marie; children, Patrick W. (Leslie) McCarty Jr., Gregg (Melissa) McCarty, and Melissa McCarty; a sister, Sharon Roberts; grandchildren, Gregg (Kylie) McCarty, Amanda (Nate) Scherbing, Nicholas (Jessica) McCarty, Andrew McCarty, Ian McCarty, Joseph (Taylor) Koch, and Odin (Brandy) Koch; and great grandchildren, Ethan and Emmett Scherbing, and Ava and Ryland Koch. He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Young, and a sister Janice Eiola.

Per Patrick's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded, and burial will take place at a later date at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery with military rites accorded.
