Ollie Mae Harris

Ollie Mae Harris, age 91, of Rockford, formerly of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, April 12, 2009 at River Bluff Nursing Home, Rockford. Funeral services will be held Noon Saturday, April 18, 2009 at Calvary Baptist Church, Ottawa, with Pastor Robert Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 11 am to service time Saturday at the church. Gladfelter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Ollie Mae was born May 22, 1917 in Freeman Spur, Illinois, a daughter of Ollie and Minnie (Corch) Lane. She married Earl Kinney and out of that union they had one child, Earline. She later married Charles "Slim" Harris. He preceded her in death. Ollie Mae was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church in Ottawa until her illness. She was a deaconess and a member of the Mother Board and was involved the the Sunday School department. Ollie was employed at the Green River Ordinance Plant and worked at the Dixon State School in Dixon, Illinois as a caseworker. She was a volunteer at the Friendship Village in Ottawa. Ollie leaves to cherish many loving memories, one daughter, Earline (Isaac) Mercer and five grandchildren, Anthony and Steve Mercer of Dixon, Illinois, Joyce Bowden, Conda Taylor and Michael (Janice) Mercer of Rockford. She also leaves an adopted daughter, Ann (Richard) Schmidt of Streator; special friends Teresa Tillman and Debra King and other cousins and relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
