OTTAWA – Norma Lou Day, 75, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday evening, September 27, 2014, at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 1, 2014, at 11:00 a.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor Peter Ward and Pastor John Robbins officiating. Burial will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Ryan and Chad Holloway, Tyler and Travis Ailor, Alex and Lindsey Day, Jessica Cunico, and Darryn and Mickey Downey. Honorary pallbearers will be George Ferguson, Mitchell Hanselman, and Andy Smith.
Norma was born April 20, 1939 in Eldorado, Illinois, the daughter of George W. and Dora Elizabeth (Tyler) Hanselman. She married Harry M. Day June 9, 1960 in Morris. He preceded her in death June 4, 1992. Norma is survived by her parents, George and Marge Hanselman of Ottawa; her children, Vanessa (Mike McCoy) Ailor of Ottawa, Shawn (Mary) Holloway of Ottawa, Kevin (Laura) Day of Sussex,WI, and Vicki (Don) Cunico of Ottawa; her grandchildren, Ryan and Chad Holloway, Tyler and Travis Ailor, Alex and Lindsey Day, and Jessica Cunico; five great grandchildren; a brother, George R. (Judy) Hanselman of Ottawa; a sister, Donna Downey of Ottawa; a sister in-law, Patricia (Jim) Day Bradley of Glen Burnie, MD; and her longtime companion, Andy Smith of Las Vegas, NV. She was preceded in death by her mother; one daughter, Velinda Day; and one granddaughter, Megan Elizabeth Ailor.
In her leisure, Norma enjoyed traveling, fishing, and camping. Times spent around the bonfires were some of her most memorable ones. Norma was a very family oriented lady and cherished her times spent with them, especially those spent with her grandchildren. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
