Mildred Dorothy (Walkling) Knox

OTTAWA - Mildred Dorothy (Walkling) Knox, 92, of Ottawa, died Friday, November 4, 2011 at Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with the Reverend Donna Trinko of the Evangelical United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday evening and one hour prior to services Tuesday at Gladfelter Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Brett Turner, Cory Conner, Mike and Jeff Stohr, Jon Stevens, and Jim Knox, Jr. Honorary pallbearers will be Austin and Tylin Girard, Bridgett Castro, Allison and Drew Stevens, Lynn Lewis and Terra Turner. Mildred was born August 6, 1919, in Serena, Illinois a daughter of Henry and Anna (Schepp) Walkling. She married Walter James Knox February 4, 1939 in Ottawa. He preceded her in death September 19, 1983. Mildred is survived by two daughters, Dorothy (Dale) Stohr of Ottawa and Carol (Terry) Girard of Marseilles; and a son, James (Chita) Knox of Ransom. Other survivors include her grandchildren, Scott (Robin) Girard, Terra (Brett) Turner, Kristy (Chris) Lemke, Michael (Cheryl) Stohr, LaVonne Sipula, Lisa (Barry) Girard, Jeff (Georgia) Stohr, Amy (Jon) Stevens, and Jimmy (Stacy) Knox; 21 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Knox and Marie Daniels; five brothers, Alfred, Edward, and August Walkling and two in infancy; and a grandson, Martin Dean Stohr in infancy. Mildred was a member of the Evangelical United Methodist Church and a lifetime member of the Women of the Moose. Her hobbies included quilting and crocheting. Her most precious times were those spent being "Grandma". Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date.
