Merle Laverne Krug

Merle L. Krug, 82, of rural Dayton Twp., Ottawa, died Friday, April 4, 2008, at Rivershores Center in Marseilles. Due to the wishes of the deceased, there will be no funeral services or visitation. Private burial will be in West Serena Cemetery. Gladfelter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. He was born October 9, 1925, in Ottawa, to Louie Walter and Olga Irene (Selvig) Krug. He married Mary Ellen Nicol of Ottawa on April 2, 1950, in Ottawa. He retired in 2003 after 62 years of farming in Dayton and Freedom Townships. He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Nancy Krug of Ottawa; two sons, Roger (Glenda) and Rodney (Barbara) both of Ottawa; eight grandchildren, Rebecca (Terry) Krug of Earlville, Jeremy (Rachel) of Ottawa, Callie (Ryan) Riveland of Serena, Mallary (Josh) Friestad of Ottawa, Molly of Peoria and Courtney, Megan and Ashley Krug all of Ottawa; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Myer. Memorials may be directed to the Serena Fire Department.
