OTTAWA – Maynard T. Smith “Speed” “Smitty”, 74, of Ottawa passed away Tuesday, July 16 th , at his home.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday at Gladfelter Funeral Home with visitation from 10:00 a.m. till 11:00 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.  Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park.  Pallbearers will be Grant Crockett, Bob, Judson and David Partridge, Dan Hatland and Bud Roberts.

Maynard was born September 10, 1938 in Ottawa, a son of Theodore and Ida (Cox) Smith.  He married Jean Davis April 8, 1959 in Ottawa.  Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Jean, of Ottawa; his children, Randy (Donna) Smith of Wedron, Cathy (Pat) Maloney of Rolling Meadows, IL, and Brian (Frankie) Smith of Richmond, IL; his grandchildren, Michael, Mariah, Seth, Trenton, and Jordyn Smith; and his great grandson, Todd Smith.  He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry; a sister, Paulette Smith; and two grandchildren, Kyle Lowe and Christina Martinez.

Maynard was a member of Fox River Lutheran Church.  He also was a member of the National Rifle Association.  He was a retired worker from Libbey-Owens-Ford.  Maynard’s hobbies included riding motorcycles, fishing, and spending time with his grandchildren.  He was a very patriotic man and supported various veterans organizations.  Maynard was very devoted to his family and cherished his time spent with them.
