OTTAWA – Marylea Dumke, 83, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday, October 28, 2012 at her home.
Memorial services will be held Thursday, November 1, 2012 at 6:00 p.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home.
Marylea was born December 9, 1928 in Marseilles, a daughter of Frank and Lena (Henderson) Cavanaugh. She married Robert Henry “Bob” Dumke June 8, 1946 in Marseilles. He preceded her in death June 30, 2001. Marylea is survived by three daughters, Twila (Tim) Yednock, Barbara Oslanzi, and Katie (Jim) Troccoli, all of Ottawa; one son Frank (Mary Knop) Dumke of Galesburg; her grandchildren, Robert “Joe” (Tracie) Yednock, Lance (Deana) Yednock, Judd and Justin Dumke, Karin (Jamie) Kummer, James Oslanzi, Lenny Newell, Jenny (Chris Farrell) Troccoli and Krisy Troccoli; eight great grandchildren, Tom and Ryan Yednock, William Kummer, C.J. Krause, Cameron and Lylah Dumke, and Jaydin and Ashton Lundsford; a brother, Ed (Connie) Cavanaugh of Marseilles; and one sister in-law, Marian Cavanaugh of Ottawa. She was preceded in death by a son, Christopher, at birth; her parents; and two brothers, Gene and Dale Cavanaugh.
Marylea was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She was past president of the American Legion Auxiliary, was a member of 40 and 8, and Secretary-Treasurer and Trustee of the Ottawa Memorial Association. She was also a member of the Ottawa Garden Club, the Illinois Valley Skydivers Club, of which she made 16 parachute jumps, and Honorary Member and co-founder of the John Steele Chapter of the 82 nd Airborne Division Association. With her husband, Marylea ran Dumke’s Greenhouse and Florist for 40 years. They were especially proud of their tomato plants and geraniums. Marylea was a cheerleader at Marseilles High School and was salutatorian of her graduating class of 1946. While in high school, she was also a magician’s assistant. She was a graduate of the Cliff Mann School of Floral Design in Denver CO. Memorial contributions may be directed to the 82 nd Airborne Division John Steele Chapter.
