Mary Louise (Hortega) Rodriguez

January 14, 1941 — November 22, 2016

Mary Louise Rodriguez, 75, of Ottawa passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at her home.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Monday, November 28, 2016 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Johnson officiating.  Visitation will be held from 10:00  until service time Monday.  Burial will be at Ottawa Avenue Cemetery at a later date.

Mary was born January 14, 1941 in Sheffield, Illinois, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Theresa (Alvarado) Hortega.  She married Peter J. Rodriguez Sr. on July 19, 1969 in Ottawa, he preceded her in death June 1, 2004.  Surviving are her daughter, Lisa Leonard; step daughter, Laura Rockford; step son, Pete J. Rodriquez Jr., brother, Steve (Debbie) Hortega; sisters, Diane Pruitt, Rita (James) Bates and her special sister in Christ, Mary Ellen Garcia; grandchildren, Alyssa, Amanda and Alan Lucas, Austin Rodriquez, Alexia, Alexander, Aaliyah Leonard; great grandchildren, Brooklynn Stohr, Johnny and Jayla Pierce, and Nevaeh Lucas.  She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother and a son-in-law.

Mary was a member of First Assembly of God for many years.  She was very active in the church teaching Sunday school and filling stockings and shoeboxes with essential items for inner city children.  When her health started to fail her, Mary remained strong in her faith.  She enjoyed sewing and cooking and most importantly her time spent with her loving family.
