Mary E. (Sorenson) Marshall

December 10, 1947 — July 6, 2012

OTTAWA – Mary E. (Sorenson) Marshall, age 64, of Ottawa, passed away Friday morning, July 6, 2012 at her residence.

Funeral services will be held 12:00 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2012 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Captain Quentin Boyle of the Salvation Army officiating.  Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. till noon on Monday, July 9, 2012 at the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be her brothers, Melvin, Ron, Duane, Mike and Greg Sorenson and Ken Reger.  Her brother, Jerry Sorenson, will serve as an honorary pallbearer.

Mary was born December 10, 1947 in Ottawa, Illinois, a daughter of Melvin Jenks and Leona (Sibert) Sorenson.  She married Michael “Mickey” Marshall August 26, 1972 at St. Casmir’s Church in Streator.  She is survived by her husband, Mickey; a son, Michael A. (Starr) Marshall of Ottawa; grandchildren, Jason Allen Marshall and Shawn Michael Marshall and a step-granddaughter Kayla O’Brien.  She also leaves her mother, Leona Sorenson of Ottawa; brothers, Melvin Sorenson of Ottawa, Jerry (Karen) Sorenson of Ottawa, Ron (Kathy) Sorenson of Streator, Duane (Debbie) Sorenson of Ottawa, Mike Sorenson of Ottawa and Greg (Spring) Sorenson of Ottawa; and a sister, Janet (Ken) Reger of Mendota.  Her father preceded her in death.

Mary was a former employee of Borg Warner and Burger King.  She was a member of the Salvation Army as well as a member of the Women’s Home League of the Salvation Army.  She was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of the Bowling League.  Mary and her husband always traveled in May following various bowling tournaments, which they considered their vacation.  She enjoyed crafts and was a fan of Peoria Chiefs Baseball.  .  Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Diabetes Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
