OTTAWA – Mary Bernice Helle, age 91, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012 at Pleasant View.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, July 18, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Reverend Joseph Donton officiating. Interment will follow at St. Columba Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Wednesday. Pallbearers will be Robert and Stephen Roberts, Ryan Vogel, Bob Humer, Andrae Naraine and Justin Luers. Honorary bearers will be Ron Marconi and John Watson..
Mary was born June 18, 1921 in Wyoming, Illinois, a daughter of Harry and Emaline (Cunningham) Barler. She married Gail Helle on July 20, 1939 in Burlington, Iowa. He preceded her in death June 10, 1982 in Ottawa. She is survived by her daughters, Marigail Roberts and Jeannie (Jim) Gebhardt, all of Ottawa; one son, Robert (Carol) Helle of Williamsburg, Iowa; grandchildren, Bob (Mary) Roberts of Ottawa, Steve (Julie) Roberts of Mount Pleasant, MI, Susan (Ron) Marconi of Marseilles, Karen (Yannick) Meillier of Boulder CO, Julie (Richard) Swarzbach of Ottawa and Kathy (Bill) Byczynski of Ottawa, Kristy (Bob) Humer of Chicago, Jamie (Ryan) Vogel of Chicago, Rachele (John) Watson of Williamsburg, IA, Breena (Justin) Luers of Keota, IA and Nicole (Andrae) Naraine of Riverside, IA. She also leaves great grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, Shannon, Emily, Charles, Audrey, Sarah, Nathan, Chelsea, Erin, Christopher, Ben, Alayna, Allison, Trevor, Gavin and Greyson; a sister, Eileen (Arnold) Pettit of Colorado; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Linda Partak; and two granddaughters, Katherine Jeanne Frecchio and Gloria Luers.
Mary was a member of St. Patrick Church in Ottawa. She had been very involved in the Wyoming High School alumni. Mary was quite musically talented and had served as church organist at St. Mary’s Church in Oregon, IL. Memorial contributions may be directed to Pleasant View.
