Lillian was born on January 29, 1915 in Roslyn, Illinois to Gustave Emil and Lena Tekla (Wohlfert) Schoenborn.  She graduated from Calumet High School in Chicago and attended the Fox Secretarial Business College.  She married the love of her life, Edgar C. Knop on June 5, 1937 at St. Stephens Church in Chicago. He died on March 5, 2001.

Lil and Ed raised their two children, Adele and Allen, in the Chicago area and later relocated to Ballwin, MO, where they lived for more than 30 years.

Lil and Ed traveled extensively during their retirement years. She was very artistic.  She loved to draw, paint, create pottery, knit, crochet, needlepoint, and calligraphy. She mastered the tedious art of quilling, decorating many wedding and anniversary invitations for family and friends.

Lillian was always a lady who embodied feminity, strength and grace in her day to day relationships and in her faith.  She had a great sense of humor and on occasion would tell a risqué joke with a gleam in her eyes and a sheepish little smile.

She enjoyed entertaining and regularly met with the ladies in her bridge club.

Lil is a former member of St John’s Lutheran Church and the Golden Agers Group in Ellisville, MO, and the Elks Club in Ottawa.  She is a current member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

She is survived by four grandchildren: Cheryl Graunke Brockman of Ottawa, Paul (Sarah) Knop of St. Peters, MO, Ellen Graunke (Chris Harrison) of North Hills, CA, Douglas (Ellen) Knop of Hazelwood, MO; three great grandsons; Joshua and Jacob Knop of St Peters, MO and Stephen Knop of Hazelwood, MO; one great granddaughter, Anna Knop of Hazelwood, MO; a daughter- in-law, Christine Knop of St Peters, MO; and a son-in-law, Marvin (Gail) Graunke of Ottawa.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Edgar; a daughter, Adele Graunke; and a son, Allen Knop.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Pleasant View or Trinity Lutheran Church.
