Leo M. Cullmann

Leo M. Cullmann, 88, of Ottawa, died Monday, August 27th at his home in Ottawa. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gladfelter Funeral Home with the Rev. Brian D. Wangler of the Ottawa First Church of the Nazarene and the Rev. Dale Katcher, CHO Hospice Chaplain, officiating. Full military honors will follow the services. Entombment of the cremains will be in Shrine of Rest Mausoleum in Oakwood Memorial Park at a later date. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. Wednesday until the time of services at the funeral home. Mr. Cullmann was born May 1, 1919, in West Salem, Wisc., to Otto and Alvena (Mau) Cullmann. He married Shirley Thiry on July 27, 1962, in Ottawa. He was a veteran of the Merchants Marines during World War II. He attended Tri-State University. He worked for the Illinois Department of Transportation as a civil engineer. After retirement, the worked for the Environment Control Company out of New Jersey, H & R Block and was an Election Judge. He was a member the West Salem Presbyterian Church, and a former member of the Ottawa Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge. He is survived by his wife; a son, Norman "Skip" (Kim) of Ottawa; three daughters, Faye (Robert) Sieck of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Alvena Chrzan of South Bend, Ind., and Skye-Lea, at home; sixteen grandchildren, Sarah, John, Luke and Joe Cullmann, Ashley Alms, Regan Sieck, twins Holly and Harrison Sieck, Kari and Aaron Burns, Wesley, Brianna, Nathan, Anthony, Brendon and Bronwen Chrzan; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Doris Wordinger of South Bend, Ind. Two brothers, Ralph and Alvin, preceded him in death. Memorials may be directed to the family.
