DAYTON - Josephine Mary Hennessey, age 79, passed away Thursday, February 17, 2011 at Rivershore Care Center in Marseilles. Memorial services will be held Noon Saturday, February 26, 2011 at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Captain Quentin Boyle officiating. Burial of her cremated remains will be in Shaduck Cemetery, Belvidere at a later date. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to service time at the funeral home. Josephine was born November 27, 1931 at Cherry Valley, Illinois, a daughter of Bert Raymond and Mary Josephine (Poshedly) Alsup. She married Edward William Hennessey, Sr. December 3, 1949 in Belvidere, Illinois. He preceded her in death December 23, 1999. She is survived by her children, Kathryn Josephine Spurlock of Kalona, IA and Edward W. (Patty) Hennessey, Jr. of Utica; two brothers, Joseph Alsup of Belvidere, and Burt (Lynn) Alsup of Kingston; three sisters, Dorothy Wirth of Belvidere, Jo Ann Alsup of Sycamore, and Betty Alsup of Cortland; her grandchildren, Edward William III, Timothy Patrick Hennessey, Kathleen Ann, Terry Lynn, and James Daniel Spurlock, and Mary Ellen Evans and Sheryl Beth Evans; a special nephew, Gary Euhus of Dixon; and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; one son and one daughter in infancy; four brothers, Albert, Raymond, Charles and Jim Alsup; and one sister, Mary Euhus. Josephine had been employed as an inspector by Westclox and had also worked for Halterman Photo Studio. She was a member of the Salvation Army and the Illinois Valley Quilt Guild. She loved quilting and sewing and used her talent to make many quilts and afghans for AIDS babies. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
