SERENA -- Joseph Adolph Marshall, age 77, of Serena, passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the Ottawa Pavilion. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Thursday at Gladfelter Funeral Home. Interment will follow in West Serena Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday with the Rosary Service at 4:00 p.m. Joseph was born June 26, 1931 in LaSalle County, Illinois, the son of Francis and Stella (Ruleman) Marshall. He married Margaret Ann Lamb June 14, 1952 at Marseilles. On their honeymoon, they were interviewed and broadcast on the WLS Barn Dance Radio. She preceded him in death February 17, 2007. Surviving are his children, Joseph Michael Marshall and Kathleen Margaret Marshall both of Serena, John Allan (Rhonda) Marshall, Elizabeth Ann Marshall and Patricia Denise Marshall-Ponce all of Spring Valley, Jeffery Alexander Marshall of Princeton and George Edward (Patricia) Marshall of Petersburg. He also leaves two sisters, Mary Ann (Joseph) Fusco of Prescott Valley, AZ and Harriet Louise Bankhead of Ottawa; grandchildren, Mari Ponce, John, Lynnette, and David Marshall; step-grandchildren, Robert, Eric and Tonya Fitzpatrick; one step-great-granddaughter, Leah Kelly as well as several nieces and nephews. Mr. Marshall was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Church in Wedron. He had been a member of the Moose and Teamsters Union. He served as a Serena volunteer fireman for 20 years. Joseph had been employed at National Biscuit in Marseilles, Wedron Silicon, Strong and Strong in Ottawa, Monsanto and retired from Farm Supply. He worked part time as a security guard at the AT&T Norway tower and had been self employed in the refuse service and salvaging building materials. Joseph enjoyed old architecture and antique cars, trains and tractors as well as playing pool. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
