James A. Gleason, 80, of Utica, died Friday afternoon, May 9, 2008, at Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Gladfelter Funeral Home with the Rev. Lisa A. Hadler officiating. Full military honors will follow. Cremation will be accorded. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. Tuesday until the time of services. Mr. Gleason was born October 10, 1927, in Marseilles to James A. and Linda (Truffa) Gleason. He married Shirley Brundage on February 5, 1950, in Ottawa. He served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Tin Can Sailors, an organization of naval veterans who served on naval destroyers. He retired from Libby-Owens-Ford in 1986, after 35 years of service. He is survived by his wife; three sons, Robert (Mary Beth) of Shamrock, Texas, Randy (Jeanne Kleen) of Normal, James A. (Susan) of Mount Airy, Maryland; three grandchildren, Robert Jr., Anthony and Sophia Gleason; five great grandchildren; a sister, Larora "Bunny" Berge of Ottawa; his step-mother, Georgia Gleason of Marseilles; and two step-sisters, Ina (David) Raub and Wanda (James) Grotti, both of Ottawa. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Suzanne Gleason; and a brother, Paul. Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice.
