Irene Ludwig

Irene Ludwig, age 90, of West Chicago, IL, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 7, 2021, in the care of her loving family.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Monday, July 12, at Elgin Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow in Lakewood Memorial Park, Elgin. Visitation will be Sunday, July 11, from 4:00-7:00 PM, and Monday July 12, from 10:00-11:00 AM at the church. Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home in Ottawa is assisting with arrangements.

Irene was born June 4, 1931 in Danville, Illinois, the first of Albert and Villa (Smith) Cork’s thirteen children. She married Paul Ludwig September 12, 1953 at the Elgin Church of the Nazarene. They lived most of their 64 years together in Glen Ellyn, IL. Paul preceded her in death December 13, 2017. Surviving are her eight children, Marlin (Sherrie) Ludwig of Somonauk, IL, Marcia (William) Wright of Danville, IL, Keith (Lorie) Ludwig of Cory, IN, Karen (Mike) Hillenbrand of Glen Ellyn, IL, Gloria Guy of Ottawa, IL, Glenna (Jon) Gabriele of Wheaton, IL, Dawn (Anthony) Ambach of Elkhorn, WI and David (Sarah) Ludwig of Lockport, IL. She also leaves six sisters, four brothers, seven sisters- and brothers-in-law, 27 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, Glenn Cork and Floyd Cork, and her sons-in-law, Dean Guy and Kip Blair.

Irene loved Jesus deeply, and shared that love, care, and joy with everyone she knew. She enjoyed long visits over coffee or on the phone, and even longer meals with friends and family, whom she was sure to keep well-fed. She loved to sing with her children and grandchildren, and they will forever carry those songs of faith in their hearts. Irene was a long-time member of the Elgin Church of the Nazarene where she led women’s Bible study, sang in the choir, taught children’s church for over thirty years, and coordinated and hosted many, many meals.
