Henry J. Heiss

Henry J. Heiss, 87, of Ottawa, died Wednesday morning, November 5, 2008, at St. Margaret's Hospital of Spring Valley. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 12 o'clock noon Saturday at St. Columba Catholic Church with the Rev. David M. Kipfer officiating. Cremation will be accorded with burial of the cremains at Ottawa Avenue Cemetery at a later date with full military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. with liturgical prayers at 4:30 p.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home. Mr. Heiss was born May 1, 1921, to Henry J. and Rose (Tschida) Heiss. He was married January 6, 1946 to Shirlee Simonson. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Master Sgt. and was in the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for Monks Bread and retired from Libbey-Owens Ford. He was a member of the Glass Workers Union and St. Columba Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Shirlee; two sons, Robert (Diane) and Richard (Chery) both of Ottawa; two daughters, Patricia (Denis) Mucha of Atlanta, Georgia and Nanci (Bernard) Stark of La Grange, Ill; eight grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Timothy; a grandson, Eric; and a sister, Anna Conness.
