Helen Margaret (Delapp) Hinkey

Helen Margaret Hinkey, age 101, of Ottawa, passed away Saturday, May 18, 2019 at the Ottawa Pavilion with her loving family by her side.

Private services will be held Tuesday, May 21st at St. Columba Cemetery.  There will be no visitation.  Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Helen was born March 24, 1918 in Ottawa, a daughter of Floyd M. and Jennie H. (Alt) DeLapp.  She married Francis Joseph Hinkey in July of 1943.  He preceded her in death.  Surviving are her children, Jane (Don) Walter of Ottawa, and John (Pat) Hinkey of Valparaiso, IN; a grandson, Mark (Meg) Hinkey of Richmond, IN; a sister, Barbara Kuhmichel of Pinehurst, NC; a nephew, John (Carol) Jensen of Ottawa; and a sister-in-law, Beverly Hinkey of California.  She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Dorothy Jensen; and a brother-in-law, Herbert Jensen.

Helen was a graduate of Ottawa Township High School.  She was a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Delta Theta Tau sorority, Daughters of the American Revolution and the Ottawa Women’s Club.  Helen worked in her father’s business, Illinois Valley Printing and later worked with her daughter at the Designer’s Hutch where she wrapped many gifts.  She enjoyed walking, bowling, playing cards with her Bridge Club and dining out with family and friends.  The time she cherished most was that spent with her family.
