Harry Joseph Nangle, 80, died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, Iowa. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 26th at Gladfelter Funeral Home. Burial of the cremains will be in Oakwood Memorial Park with full military rites. Visitation will be two hours prior to the services with the family. Mr. Nangle was born November 10, 1927, in Ottawa, to Joseph and Ella (Hackenschmidt) Nangle. He was married to Geraldine T. Huber on May 14, 1949, in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Naplate, Ill., who preceded him in death October 28, 1996. He served in World War II with the U.S. Army in Italy. He was with the Ottawa police department for over twenty years retiring as chief of police in 1974. He then was head of security at Libbey-Owens-Ford for six years and retired in 1980. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, and life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion, Illinois Valley Chiefs Association and Illinois Police Association. He is survived by two sons, Harry J. (Anita) Nangle, Jr. of Streator and Michael Nangle of Travis City, Mich.; a daughter, Suzanne M. (Craig) Hetelle of Seneca; six grandchildren, Stacy Nangle and Becky Nangle, Stephanie (Jason) Farr, Mathew, Marcia and Marty Hetelle; two great grandchildren; and a loving companion, Sylvia Wiman of Des Moines, Iowa. Three sisters, Laura Spradling, Jane Crest-Wells and Marion Studebaker preceded him in death. Memorials may be directed to the donor's choice.
