Gloria Jean (Giddens) Maltas

OTTAWA – Gloria Jean Maltas, age 81, of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday, April 10, 2013 at the Ottawa Pavilion.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 15, 2013, at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Gloria was born January 20, 1932 in Ottawa, Illinois, a daughter of Albert and Sarah Elizabeth (Wilson) Giddens. She married Donald E. “Sparky” Maltas March 4, 1949 in Ottawa; he preceded her in death December 28, 1996. Surviving are her children, Terry (Carol) Maltas of Spring Valley, Rick Maltas and Vickie of Utica and Denise (Ron) Hudkins of Ottawa. She also leaves her grandchildren, Sarah (Kurt) Nichols, Luke, Blythe and Steve (Vickie) Maltas, Brad (Christine) Duff-Hudkins, Mike (Margie) and Matthew Hudkins; and ten great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.
Gloria was a member of Bethel Lutheran Brethren Church. She and her husband owned and operated Don’s Radio and Phone. Gloria had also worked as housekeeper at Gladfelter Funeral Home as well as for the Gladfelter family. She enjoyed cleaning, collecting, gardening and square dancing. Most of all, she treasured time spent with her loving family. Memorial contributions may be directed to the NICU at Northwestern University Hospital or to the March of Dimes.
