Gladys D. (Allen) Zaccagnini

September 12, 1920 — November 6, 2017

MARSEILLES – Gladys D. Zaccagnini, age 97, of Marseilles, passed away Monday afternoon, November 6, 2017 at OSF St. Elizabeth Medical Center, Ottawa.

Funeral services will be held at noon on Friday, November 10, 2017, at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Reverend Duane Kaufman officiating.  Burial will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park.  Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. till noon on Friday morning at the funeral home.  Pallbearers will be Tom Youngling, Jeff Farrero, Jim Smith, Ed Taylor, Brent Zaccagnini, and Mike Jett.

Gladys was born September 12, 1920 in Crystal City, Missouri, the daughter of Edward and Maude (Phillips) Allen.  She married Earl Vandervort in March 1937 in Ottawa.  He preceded her in death.  She later married James Zaccagnini in Naplate.  He also preceded her in death.  Gladys is survived by her children, Janet Youngling of Marseilles and  Paula (Richard) Farrero of Coal City, IL; stepchildren, James Zaccagnini Jr.of Naplate, Gerald (Jeanne) Zaccagnini of Florida, and Julie (Harold) Garner of Ottawa.  Also surviving are numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by two sons, Conrad and Gene Vandervort; a brother, Paul Allen; a sister, Virginia Allen; a stepdaughter, Vivian Zaccagnini; a stepson, Ernie Zaccagnini; and a granddaughter, Angela Cook.

Gladys was a former member of the Women of the Moose.  In her leisure, she could be found playing cards, knitting and crocheting, and working in the yard.  She also enjoyed cooking and had a sweet tooth for chocolates and snacks.  Gladys cherished time spent with her family and was particularly fond of her little dog “Cindy”.
