Gertrude Elizabeth Vezain

OTTAWA - Gertrude Elizabeth Vezain, 96, of Ottawa, passed away Sunday afternoon, January 8, 2012 at Rivershores in Marseilles. Private funeral services were held Thursday, January 12, 2012 at Gladfelter Funeral Home. Interment followed in Oakwood Memorial Park. Gertrude was born December 6, 1915 in Mendota, a daughter of William Robert and Helen Elizabeth (Lafferty) Angel. She married Eugene LaVern Vezain on January 27, 1939 in Ottawa. He preceded her in death October 23, 1996. She is survived by her children, Robert E. Vezain, Sr. of La Salle, Kathy (Kenneth) Weber of Spring Valley, and Susan (Edwin) Janke of Seneca; grandchildren, Robert Vezain, Jr., Dan Scerini, William Scerini, Paul Scerini, Sr., Eric Janke, Phillip Janke, Lenetta Vezain and Joelle (Kenneth) Taft; fourteen great grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves a stepbrother, John (Silvia) Carlile and a stepsister, Ruth Miller. Four brothers, Jack, William, Leslie and Richard Angel; a sister, Bertha Mercin; a grandson, John Arvid Vezain; and a great grandson, Paul Michael Scerini, preceded her in death along with stepbrothers Harold, Donald and Francis Carlile and a stepsister, Dorothy Engel. Gertrude was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church. A loving mother and grandmother, Gertrude loved to sew, knit, embroider and crochet. She was a historian and enjoyed doing research on genealogy. She did historical research for the LaSalle County Historical Guild and for the "Ottawa Old and New" publication.
