LELAND - George E. Chiavario, 89, of Leland passed away Saturday, February 27, 2010, at his home. Funeral services honoring his life will be Tuesday, March 2nd, at 1:00 p.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home in Ottawa with Bruce Shaw, Randy Satterfield, and Ruth Taplin officiating. Interment will follow at Leland Cemetery with military rites accorded. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Larry Fisk, Christopher Smith, Kevin Chiavario, Raymond Chiavario, Mike Olson, and Glen Bloemker. Mr. Chiavario was born June 23, 1920 in McNabb, Illinois, a son of George Eugene and Mary (Celio) Chiavario. He married Betty Clemens August 9, 1944 in Orlando, Florida. He is survived by his wife Betty of Leland; his children Donna (Delbert) Fisk of Seneca, Eugene (Bonnie) Chiavario of Leland, and Pat (Ed) Smith of Antioch; and a daughter in-law, Joan Chiavario of Leland. He also leaves a brother, Donald Chiavario of Hennepin and three sisters, Betty (Norman) Delicath of McNabb, Violet (John) Serafini of Oglesby, and Rosie (Joe) Boggio of Hennepin. Twelve grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren also survive. Mr. Chiavario was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth; one great granddaughter, Kendal Bonnell; two brothers, Joe and Arthur Chiavario; and three sisters, Dorothy Atkins, Joann Whitney , and one in infancy. Mr. Chiavario was a member of the Christian Church and DeKalb County Farm Bureau. He also served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a dairy farmer and enjoyed fishing, milking cows, puttering around the house, and playing Rook. He was the rock and foundation that held his family together and was always willing to help others. His genuine words of wisdom will be greatly missed.
