OTTAWA - Frank Rodney "Rod" George, Sr., age 86, of Ottawa, passed away at 7:35 a.m. Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at St. Margaret's Hospital in Spring Valley. Funeral services will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Reverend Peter Brick officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Memorial Park with military honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Timothy George, Mathew George, Fred Kline, Jr., Jordan Craig, Michael Kirkpatrick, and William Witte. Mr. George was born October 19, 1923 at Ottawa, a son of Frank R. and Charlotte E. (Hemmerle) George. He married Helen Mae Hoenes December 19, 1945 at St. Joseph's Rectory in Marseilles. She preceded him in death October 30, 1998. He is survived by his children, Gayle (Fred) Kline of Marseilles, Tamara (Robert) Craig of Olathe, Kansas and Frank (Christine) George, Jr. of Chillicothe, Illinois. He also leaves a brother-in-law, Dr. Henry (Donna) Hoenes of Cyprus, Texas; nine grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Tricia George in infancy. Mr. George was a member of the First Baptist Church and was retired from Libbey-Owen Ford. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1942 to 1946, and was a Cub Scout leader, CHO Auxiliary Volunteer and a member of the Ottawa High School Boosters for many years. Memorial contributions may be directed to the American Cancer Society, the American Heart Association, First Baptist Church or a charity of the donor's choice.
