OTTAWA - Ernest Salvati, 94, of Ottawa passed away Monday morning, September 19, 2011 at Pleasant View. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, September 22, 2011 at Gladfelter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Oakwood Memorial Park where full military rites will be accorded by the Ottawa Veterans Group. Visitation will be held from noon until service time at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Ernest was born July 13, 1917 in Toluca, Illinois, a son of Dominic and Lucille Salvati. He married Treva Bednar January 13, 1943 at Fort Smith, Arkansas. She survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Victoria Johnson of Ottawa; a granddaughter, Tracy (Michael) Jonassen of Ottawa; two great grandchildren, Chelsie and Zachary Jonassen of Ottawa; and several nieces and nephews. Four brothers, Fred, Tony, Leo and Chester as well as three sisters, Anna, Sue and Gilda preceded him in death. Ernest was formerly employed by Libbey-Owens-Ford. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He was a member of the VFW. Ernest enjoyed going to the riverboats and was an avid Cubs fan. His most enjoyable times were those spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
