Ernest "Ernie" Brevik

Ernest “Ernie” Brevik,Jr., age 80, of Ottawa, passed away Thursday, January 23, 2020 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday, January 27, 2020, at noon at St. Columba Church with Reverend Gary Caster officiating.  Burial will follow in St. Columba Cemetery.  Visitation will be held Sunday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. till 4:00 p.m. at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home with Biblical passage readings at 12:45 p.m.  Pallbearers will be Jacob and Jesse Weygand, Kristian Rardin, Adam Bennett, Daniel Biba, and Josh Buhr.  Honorary pallbearer will be Noah Smith.

Ernest was born October 12, 1939 in Fargo, North Dakota, the son of Ernest Sr. and Delores (Schur) Brevik.  He married Mary Jo Ward on August 2, 1958 in Waukon, Iowa.  Surviving are his wife of nearly 62 years, Mary Jo, of Ottawa; his children, Carmen (Scott) Gladen of Galena, IL and Kimberly (Kelly) Rardin of Marseilles; his grandchildren, Lindsey (Dan) Biba, Ashley Steele, Jacob (Kassie) Weygand, Jesse (Mallorie) Weygand, Amy (Adam) Bennett, Kristian Rardin, and Hanna (Josh) Buhr; several loved great grandchildren; brothers, Bart and Blake Brevik; a sister, Georgia (Kim) Gaines; his stepmother, Delores Brevik; and special cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Eddie Brevik.

Ernie proudly served his country in the United States Navy.  After the Navy he began his life as a musician.  He shared his gift of music and met many interesting people through his career.  He was a man of many talents.   He enjoyed riding motorcycles and was a sommelier for the wine and liquor industry.  Other hobbies Ernie loved were fly fishing, poetry, photography, painting, and drawing.  But above all, Ernie was very much devoted to his family and cherished each and every moment spent with them.  He will be deeply missed by all those who loved him and whose lives he touched.
