Emily Ann Engel

OTTAWA - Emily Ann Engel, 27, of Ottawa, formerly of Marseilles, passed away Friday, November 19, 2010 at University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery, Marseilles. Visitation will be from 3 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Danny Medler, Brant Decker, Ryan Nelle, Mike Anderson, Eric Hackler and Justin Powell. Honorary pallbearers will be Kiley Szafranski and B.J. Olson. Emily was born May 13, 1983 in Ottawa, a daughter of James and Lora (Powell) Carrera. She married Jacob Engel April 22, 2006 at Marseilles Methodist Church. Surviving are her husband, Jacob, of Ottawa; a son, Drake, at home; her parents James and Lora Carrera of Marseilles; a brother, Clinton (Ashley Martin) Carrera and their daughter, Hailey Martin of Marseilles: her grandparents, Sam and Norma Carrera of Ottawa, Laura Engel of Ottawa, and Martha Keigley of Port Charlotte, Florida; her mother in-law, Diana Engel of Ottawa; and brothers in-law, Matt Engel of Ottawa and Eric Engel (Bubba) and Janice Casey along with their three children, Erica, Ashley and Emily of Sheridan. Her father in-law, Eric Engel; her grandfathers, Charles Engel and Willis Keigley; and her grandparents, Mary Ann and Robert Lee Powell, Sr, preceded her in death. Emily was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Marseilles. She was employed at Main Attractions in Ottawa. Emily was a participant in the Look Good Feel Better Program and St. Baldrick's Day Celebration. She donated much of her time to cancer awareness. She loved children and her family. Emily was a fun-loving young lady who possessed a huge smile that could light up any room. She enjoyed Facebook and loved sports. She was a loving mother, wife, and daughter and was very devoted and loyal to her family and friends. Memorial contributions may be directed to the family for an education fund for her son, Drake.
