OTTAWA - Edmund A. Wisniewski, 85, of 2705 Everette Road, Ottawa, died on Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at his home. Visitation will be at Gladfelter Funeral Home from 4 :00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, and a service with full military honors will be held there on Friday at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be private. Mr. Wisniewski was born in Ottawa, Illinois, on January 19, 1923, to Stanislaus and Severina (Sefcikowski) Wisniewski. He had eleven brothers and sisters. He graduated from Ottawa Township High School in 1940, and attended the University of South Dakota where he completed a course of study in Basic Engineering. On July 3, 1975, he married the love of his life, Sandra. He was the proud father of two children, Mark and Kathy. Mr. Wisniewski was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp from 1940 to 1941. He served in the United States Army in World War II from 1943 to 1946, with tours of duty in France, Belgium, Germany, Czechoslovakia, the Philippine Islands, and Japan. He worked at Libbey-Owens-Ford for 40 years. He was a true fan of the Bears and the Cubs, he was a great cook, and he loved to play golf. He was good at making others laugh and at playing practical jokes. He was a devoted husband and a father who was voted World's Best Dad for more than 50 years running. He is survived by his wife Sandra (Herr) Wisniewski; children, Mark (Nora) Wisniewski of Deerfield, Massachusetts and Kathy Wisniewski of St. Louis, Missouri; grandchildren, James and Bree; sisters, Florence (Keith) Bretag and Henrietta Rauh; and brothers, Donald (Marcia) Wisniewski and John "Jack" (Loretta) Wisniewski. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim, Stan, and Ted; and sisters, Barb, Helen, Martha, and Irene. Memorials may be directed to the American Heart Association or to the donor's choice.
