Earl George "Bud" Daugherty

OTTAWA – Earl George “Bud” Daugherty, age 81, of Ottawa, passed away Friday, July 3, 2015 at his home.

Private family services will be held at Gladfelter Funeral Home.

Earl was born August 25, 1933 in Ottawa, the son of Clarence and Eva (Hill) Daugherty.  He married Marjorie Nicol December 11, 1954 in Ottawa.  Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Marjorie, of Ottawa; his children, Diane (George) O’Hara of Oswego and Steven Daugherty of Utica; his grandchildren, Jacob (Michelle) Prettyman, Jason Prettyman, and Shaun and Nicole O’Hara; his great grandson, Bradley Prettyman; one brother, Clarence “Sonny” (Carole) Daugherty of Ottawa; one sister, Phyllis Abell of Ottawa; his son in-law, Steve Prettyman of Woodbury, MN; and a sister in-law, Sue Daugherty of Ottawa.  He was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Prettyman; one brother, David Daugherty; and one sister, Eloise Haizlip.

Earl was a member of the First Baptist Church of Ottawa.  He retired from Libby-Owens-Ford after 36 years.  Earl was an avid golfer and thoroughly enjoyed his times on the golf course.  Other special interests included fishing, hunting, and cooking.  Living across the street of a fire department Earl would often help the firemen around the department making sure they were taken care of both while they were there and while they were called out to duty.  In doing so they affectionately bestowed upon him the title of Honorary South Side Fire Chief.  This title has been recognized by current and past firefighters of the Ottawa Fire Department.  Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of the donor’s choice.
