Dorothy V. Menton

Dorothy Veronica Menton, 91, died Friday, October 06, 2006, in her residence at Pleasant View Luther Home. She was born February 18, 1915 on a farm south of Pontiac, Illinois, the daughter of Anna Marie (Caviezel) and Michael P. Menton. She was a 1932 graduate of Fairbury Township High School and moved with her family in 1936 to Ottawa, Illinois. She was employed by Sears Roebuck & Company in Ottawa for 42 years. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sisters, Anna Marie Menton and Margaret (Menton) Mohr, her brother, William F. Menton, his wife Dorothy (Bruck) Menton and their infant son, Raymond and her nephews William Mohr and Richard Mohr. She is survived by her nieces Charmaine Mohr, Patricia (Menton) Crum and husband Thomas Crum, Janet Menton-Proffitt and husband J. R. Proffitt, and Catherine (Menton) Snow and her husband Brian Snow, and her nephew Richard's wife Elaine Mohr and by a large number of grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and dear friends. Before her illness she was an active member of the Daughter's of Isabella, the local chapter of AARP, and Ottawa's Business and Professional Women's Club. She attended St. Columba Church and was for many years a member of the church choir. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Columba Catholic Church with the Rev. David M. Kipfer officiating. Burial will be in St. Columba Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 until 10:30 a.m. Monday at Gladfelter Funeral Home.
