MARSEILLES - Don Christensen, 50, of Marseilles passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Ottawa Regional Hospital and Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be held Sunday, July 31, 2011, at 5:00 p.m. at Gladfelter Funeral Home with Reverend David M. Kipfer officiating. Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Don was born October 18, 1960 in Ottawa, a son of Russell and Frances Eileen (Murry) Christensen. He married Ronda Foltynewicz July 16, 1982 in Marseilles. She survives. Other survivors include three brothers, Larry (Karen) Christensen and Dale (Paula) Christensen, both of Ottawa and Alan (Carole) Christensen of Naperville; a sister, Joan Chiavario of Leland; a sister in-law, Lauri (Doug) McDonald of Marseilles; his father in-law, Ron Foltynewicz of Marseilles; his nieces and nephews, Brian (Nina) Christensen, Steve (Michelle) Christensen, Mark, Ben, Abbie, and Zac Christensen, Jayne (Mike) Olson, Jodi (Jamie) Bonnell, Kevin (Amy) Chiavario, Matt McDonald, Phil McDonald, and Amy (Brad) Marek; and eight great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Nathan, in infancy; his mother in-law, Jo Foltynewicz; a brother in-law, Ken Chiavario; and a great niece, Kendal Bonnell. Don was the Superintendent of Waste Water Treatment for the City of Marseilles. He taught wastewater treatment classes at Illinois Valley Community College for many years. He also served on various boards for the City of Marseilles. He was a member of the La Salle County Genealogy Guild, genealogy being one of his hobbies. Other pastimes included photography and building, selling, and maintaining computers. He and his wife, Ronda, operated D&R Computers. Don was a man who dearly loved his family and was known for his great sense of humor. Memorial contributions may be directed to a charity of the donor's choosing.
