Domingo Villarreal "Mingo" Sanchez, age 80, of Ottawa, passed away Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at Ascension Saint Joseph Medical Center, Joliet.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, May 6th at St. Columba Church with Father Nicolas Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in St. Columba Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:00 to 10:30 A.M. Monday at Gladfelter-Roetker Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Larry Linn III, Raymond D/S Linn, Ajay Young, Tristan Riley, Aiden Fenoglio, David Pfalzgraf, Jeremy Work and Shane Riley.
Domingo was born May 23, 1943 in Del Rio, Texas to Celestino and Manuela (Villarreal) Sanchez. He married Gwendolyn Makekau December 4, 1971 at St. Columba Church in Ottawa. Surviving is Gwendolyn, his loving wife of 52 years; children, James Michael of Marseilles, Kenneth Michael and Stephanie Michael both of Seattle, WA, Kathleen Hicks of Marseilles and Connie MM Sanchez (David Pfalzgraf) of Ottawa. He also leaves a sister, Lecha Esquivel of San Antonio, TX; 29 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Domingo was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Celestino Sanchez, Jr.; three sisters Virginia De La Garza, Beatrice Ramirez and Eva Rodriguez.
Domingo was a member of St. Columba Church. He retired after 30 years dedicated service to Caterpillar Tractor Company and was a member of UAW Local 145. Domingo was known to offer carpooling in his vans for Caterpillar employees, many who became good friends. He enjoyed watching wrestling and cheering for his beloved Dallas Cowboys. Domingo appreciated good music, fishing, bowling and loved to monitor the Weather Channel. He was a devoted family man and particularly enjoyed his grandchildren. Family activities were first priority and Domingo would strive to instill family values, good manners and the importance of being punctual!
